Slide Peak

Total trip duration: 3:32:53
Distance: 5.2 miles
Hikers: Isabelle, Brigid, Vance and Quinn
Trailwrights 72 completion count: (Gulf) Slide Peak #27 (4,806 feet)

Today our trek was an out-and-back on the rugged Glen Boulder Trail.  The fall colors made for a beautiful drive up into the White Mountains.  Isabelle had to miss our last hike due to a cold, so it was great to have her along for this trip.  Here we are getting ready to take to the trail!

Needed to get one with dad too!

Quinn just had to tear through the brush to get to the top of this big rock.  He winded up sacrificing some skin on the side of his face for the sake of the picture!

 Go team!

See if you can find Quinn in the Mount Isolation blog post next to this same birch:

Isabelle discovers the first signs of snow!  She's ready for sledding and I'm ready for Florida!

Isabelle manages the hard work of keeping the boulder in place while Brigid and Quinn sit back looking pretty!

A family photo next to Glen Boulder.

Isabelle shows us a little chunk of ice she discovered.

Brigid and Isabelle decided Glen Boulder was a good turning point for them.

Quinn and I then pushed on to Slide Peak.  The hiking and views along the way were excellent!

There was a great little section through the trees where there was a beautiful surrounding snow cover.

At the top, the wind really picked up.  Quinn took shelter on the southern side of the big cairn.  The views were spectacular.

We had passed a group on the way up and we were waiting for them to see if they'd grab a picture for us.  It was pretty windy and cold and after a while, we decided to head down.  We ran into the group shortly after getting into the trees and decided to turn around for a summit photo.

It was pretty amazing how much the terrain and climate changed with a bit of elevation gain.

We weaved our way back toward Glen Boulder taking it all in.

If he finds a rock, he'll climb it!  Beautiful blue skies with Washington at his back.

On Friday, our original plans for the long weekend fell through and we were all a bit disappointed.  However, this family expedition certainly made up for it!  I hope Brigid and Isabelle will join us for more peaks as we make our way through the Trailwright 72.  Happy trails!
