Boott Spur

Total trip duration: 4:18:57
Distance: 6.6 miles
Hikers: Vance and Quinn
Trailwrights 72 completion count: Boott Spur #29 (5,492 feet)

It was a bright and sunny morning as we arrived at Pinkham Notch.  The parking lot that is usually a sea of cars was virtually empty.  We went inside to check out the weather and review our gear.  Then, we made our to the trailhead.  Today our hike was an out-and-back on the Tuckerman Ravine and Boott Spur trails.

Surprisingly, there wasn't any snow on the ground as we made our way up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail.  That said, there was plenty of ice in the river.

We turned off the Tuckerman Ravine Trail toward Boott Spur and took advantage of this handy set of stairs!

We hiked along for a while before puling off the trail to the Ravine Outlook.  Spectacular views all around!

After the Outlook, traction was a must.  We ran into a couple of other hikers on the trail that had to turn around because they couldn't keep their footing.  The following section of trail was pure ice:

We got above treeline and the skies opened up!

 Here's Quinn at Split Rock.

Killer views out to Glenn Boulder!

As we made our way to higher elevation, the mountains became frosted like cupcakes!

Tricky footing (and killer rocks!) on route to the summit.

We decided to check out the Davis Path but the wind coming toward us from Monroe was fierce!

The wind was strong at the summit, so we didn't stay long.

Looking back down the Boott Spurr Trail, Wildcat ski area looks fairly flat!

The snow may not be deep yet, but winter is most definitely on its way!

There goes Quinn bebopping his way across the "boardwalks."

Given the mix of ice and tricky, steep footing in spots, it seemed like we covered more than 6.6 miles today!  Nevertheless, I was really glad to be out on the trails with Quinn today.  Safe travels and a Happy Thanksgiving to all!

    1. Thanks! The Boott Spur Trail picks up after about .4 miles on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail; no issues with ice or snow to that point...
